FAQs

What can I expect in our first session?

Our first session will last up to 75 minutes. We will thoroughly review your current symptoms, lifestyle and environment, and relevant family history. We will go over your past psychiatric and medical health history, and review any medications and supplements you may be taking. Towards the end of the visit, we will discuss your diagnosis and an integrated plan for treatment. I will explain the pros and cons of different options, which may include a conversation about medications and their safety if relevant. This initial visit is very thorough because it forms the basis for your treatment plan.

If this is a second opinion or one-time consultation, I will provide a written report to you or your treating clinician with recommendations for treatment.

How often do I come in for appointments?

After your initial visit, we will discuss the recommended frequency for follow up appointments. Generally, therapy is most effective with weekly sessions and medication management sessions are typically once every 1-2 months. If needed and appropriate, virtual video visits are also offered.

Do you have specialty experience within psychiatry?

I have extensive experience treating adult patients with symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, bipolar and schizophrenia spectrum disorder, among others. I have additional specialized training, and am passionate about, working with women with peripartum mental health symptoms (before and after pregnancy). I also have additional training in sleep medicine, nutritional psychiatry, and psychotherapy to support my integrative approach to mental health care.

What kind of psychotherapy do you practice? What will I be doing?

Together, we will tailor the therapeutic modality to what will benefit you the most. It may include insight-oriented treatment, cognitive and behavioral skills, mindfulness based therapies, focus on interpersonal dynamics and relationships, motivational interviewing, and more. We will aim to reduce barriers that were built in early life to solve childhood problems that may be maladaptive as an adult, explore patterns in relationships and interpersonal dynamics, and explore concrete skills to help you reach your goals.

I already have a therapist. Can I come see you only for medications?

Absolutely. I’m glad that you already have an established therapeutic relationship, and am happy to work with your current therapist collaboratively to provide comprehensive care.

How do I schedule an appointment?

The first step is a free phone call, which lasts 10-15 minutes. During this time, I will hear about why you are reaching out to determine if my services are the best fit for you. I will share information about my practice and, if appropriate, we will then schedule your first appointment. Please visit this page to schedule the free phone consultation.

Do you take my insurance?

At this time, I do not accept any insurance plans. I can provide you with an invoice (superbill) to submit to your insurance company. If you have a PPO plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company for out of network services.

What about communication in between appointments, or paperwork needing to be completed?

After establishing as a patient, we will have a secure email portal for communication. I will also provide you with my voicemail number and return calls within 24 hours.

If you have paperwork/forms that require completion, I request that you schedule an appointment in advance of any due date so that we can discuss them in the office together.

I do not charge for phone calls less than ten minutes. For phone calls over 10 minutes, you will be billed prorated to $400/hour. Please note that insurance companies do not reimburse for phone charges. Generally, if a phone call over 10 minutes is necessary, I recommend we schedule an appointment.

Are there any appointments outside of normal business hours?

Yes. Appointments can be scheduled on weekends or evenings by special request.
